The Passing of Richard's Wife

It is with incredible sadness that we heard that Richard's wife Kit has passed away this evening.

As some of you know, she had a couple of falls and was never able to fully recover. We missed her at the HEAS this year. For some of us, it has been decades that her smiling face was there and taking our fee.

Turning our attention to Richard, we have no words to express that sadness with feel with you of your loss of your bride of 51 years. Life is not easy but death is harder. We are here for you Richard in any capacity that you need or would like.

There will be no service. Kit has already started her journey to her final resting place in Virginia and will be cremated. Richard and Kit do not want flowers. Richard said, if you must, then donate to a charity of your own choice.

I will miss her yearly hug and all of the phone calls she answers. Kit was the daytime phone answering personality for the Hull house while Richard was out retiring.

We love and loved both of you and really appreciate the kind and caring people that you are/were.

I bow my head this evening in reflection and prayer for Richard and Kit.

EDIT: I have uploaded this personal message from Richard.

My deepest condolences Richard. I'm sorry to say that I never got the chance to meet Kit, but I hear she was an wonderful person. The community that both of you have helped create has been and will continue to be a monumental part of my life and that of many others. We're here for you, Richard, in any way we can be.

So incredibly sorry for such a devastating lost. I met Kit a few times and she was a wonderful person; her kindness in tolerating us interlopers was beyond generous. Please accept my sincerest condolences. This is also a lost to all of us who had such an opportunity to meet her.

Thanks to all who responded to my personal e-mail as well as here. I was amused at so many who had met Kit either once at HEAS or over many years attending the event all the way back to 1989 at the Teslathons, tended to remember her as, "that nice lady who took my money"...

Most of her effort over the 35 years was unseen in preparations prior to the event. If you liked your time at HEAS it was partially due to Kit's continued assistance to me leading up to the event. This year, very early arrivals on Wednesday of Kim and Tony, followed by Joe Ballantyne, Frank Sanns and Ed Wingate really helped offset Kit's absence in tremendously assisting set up and trips to Sam's club and Ice runs to 7-11 throughout the event.

This year, Kit's place at the sign in table was taken by a lady friend of mine, Denise, who kindly offered to sit at the table for hours as those who were busy buying and selling cool stuff had to be herded over to pay up, sign in and collect their name badges.

Again, like Kit, I am tough and will move forward with friends to happy times with what time I am granted in this life. She would have wanted that.

God bless you Mr. Richard, my prayers are with you.

I chatted with her many a time going through the house. She would always be sitting at the kitchen table with the cats nearby. She was a true and gracious lady.

I appreciate all the kind and heart felt condolences by all who responded. My next door neighbors treated me to Thanksgiving dinner with them and many other local friends have been kind and offered to help in any way that I might require. I am one of those folks who just moves on through difficult times. So I am back up to some speed, still holding our HEAS local monthly meetings.

It is natural to have an acute sense of loneliness after spending 51 years with a wife, friend and helpmate. I will continue to adapt. Again. thanks for all the kind responses.
