I have no words...

This forum is for other possible methods for fusion such as Sonolumenescense, Cold Fusion, CANR/LENR or accelerator fusion. It should contain all theory, discussions and even construction and URLs related to "other than fusor, fusion".

Seems like yet more people don't understand how to measure things.

To clarify their claims, an excerpt from https://thedebrief.org/rocketstar-succe ... ion-drive/ on operational details that are suspiciously absent from their website:

We create protons as a by-product of our Foundation thruster that are moving fast enough to induce nuclear fusion with Boron,” the company told The Debrief. “That type of fusion creates a high-energy carbon that immediately decays into three useful alpha particles, thereby breaking up the cloud of positive charge that exists in the exhaust of all-electric thrusters.”

This means that the fusion reaction does not increase the thrust by forcing blasts of fusion radiation out the back of the thruster. Instead, the alpha particles generated simply improve the existing thruster by reducing the “space charge effect” thereby increasing the operating efficiency of the Foundation drive.

“It’s all indirect, using a very specific type of fusion to sweep away garbage,” RocketStar executives told The Debrief.

They claim a thrust of 17.2 mN at just 6 W input power (2.9 mN/W). For perspective, Hall effect thrusters have typical efficiencies of ~0.05 mN/W. CubeSat-scale ion thrusters seem to get around 0.01 mN/W.

Also: “Our FireStar™ Foundation Drive was developed for and launched on Artemis 1 in November 2022,” they told The Debrief. “The initial model was delivered to NASA for integration in 2019, with further commercial sales closed thereafter.”

Turns out it was Miles Space, a company acquired by RocketStar in early 2024(?), that in 2022 flew a CubeSat with the FireStar precursor on Artemis 1: https://miles-space.com/thruster/ and https://www.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads ... or_web.pdf. A detail that they like to leave out is that they never established contact with their CubeSat once deployed, and so the FireStar precursor has never even been tested in space. https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/spacecr ... =TEAMMILES

Also, they have received funds through the SBIR: https://www.sbir.gov/node/2218177

Is anyone of significant fusion background in charge of this fusion exhaust clown show? God, forgive them, for they know not what they do...

I have a word.

If "🤣" counts as a word.

Certainly a worthy winner of the most BS ever claimed for nuclear fusion to date. Beyond mind numbingly stupid and painful to read even for the small amount posted here.

So they 'We create' protons - and I always thought that was done only once in our Universe via the silly named "Big Bang". LMAO*

This is the give away of the lie with this ridiculous claim "moving fast enough to induce nuclear fusion with Boron".
The issue here is that the protons are moving at the same relative velocity as the boron ions so how do they get fusion via random and extremely small energy elastic collisions? Magic, most likely (as in magic of the gullible who will want to believe anything cloaked in technical sounding language.)

* Yes not what they meant, but I couldn't resist mocking such poor writing.

Aside: Yes, Dr. Hossenfelder did a vid on it but didn't really analyze their claim - but did note in passing, that if they really did achieve boron fusion, why not just produce energy?
