Superheavy: Making and Breaking the Periodic Table

Post by Emma Black »

This was a fun read about the few who have spent their scientific careers dedicated to the hunt for new elements and the challenges faced. Whist light on the technical details due to being written for a non-scientific audience, I felt it made up for it through some of the more amusing sides to the various element hunts. I will leave the debate on the real world uses for such an endeavour for others.

There is also a short youtube documentary, covering one chapter in particular:

Great video on you tube! The barn analogy at minutes 43-46 is very good. This is worth the 1+ hour sit down for those interested in the super heavy elements and the trail leading to them.

Glad you enjoyed, youtube is getting so good for documentaries now.

There are a good couple of interviews with Yuri Oganessian from the University of Nottingham's channel, where he gives a tour of the facility and you can really see the various ways they have managed to get by on a limited budget.
