Star Mode as an Emergent Phenomenon

While benchmarking and validating my PIC code, I've been doing some simulations of standard spherical fusors. Here's star mode for a not-quite-symmetric cathode with relatively thick wires. Pressure is ~18 mtorr. I might look for bugle jet mode next.

Great posting Liam. The volumetric collision in velocity space is the winner with target collision hot spots. I think U of W did all this work back in the early 2000's via actual experiment using some occulting disks. They even counted protons using a PIPS detector inside the chamber! We got to see all those papers back them. They did the best work for over 25 years, but are now gone.
