I use a right angle KF elbow so that my Baratron doesn't peer into the eye of the Gorgon.

I’ve got my gauge behind a few twists and turns and a SS screen to capture any shards from a failed cathode. I’ve ordered a polymer centering ring and clamp for some isolation. In the meantime, can I just unplug the gauge once I have the pressure set to around my normal spot?

I did exactly that with my ion gauge on my original fusor. I would unplug the head with all the electronics and display and put it in an anti static bag away from the fusor before turning on the HV.
The more reactive the materials, the more spectacular the failures.
The testing isn't over until the prototype is destroyed.
