Old flange

Every fusor and fusion system seems to need a vacuum. This area is for detailed discussion of vacuum systems, materials, gauging, etc. related to fusor or fusion research.

Old flange

Post by DonIdai »

Hi all,

I have a JEOL SEM JSM T20, which is more than 50 years old electron microscope.
I tried hours to search for information on the flange it has with 50 mm outer diameter and with 2 holes.

I need to get an adapter between this flange and my turbovac 50 with DN 63 ISO-K flange.

Anyone have any idea about this flange and what is it called? And where to get a fitting flange?
Or is there another solutions out there, like welding?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Don

Does that inner circle have a knife edge, or is it parallel to the ring on which the holes are drilled into?

That is a real challenge - might be a bridge too far to find a proper current commercial adapter plate. I'd simply buy a proper size standard flange (with an o-ring on the side towards your 'opening), and do any hole drilling required so it can be connected to that port. Then the other side would be a standard knife edge or KF so that would mate to your more normal vacuum components. Just a thought.

Thanks Dennis!

What do you think of the idea of TIG welding a KF flange to it?

If you have the ability, why not? I machine my own adapters (O-rings, bolt holes w/threads, clearance holes.)
