Well, the JET team ran their machine to produce energy (far less then they used and they clearly say this.) The article even converts it into mega-watts of power (11 MW.) So, interesting but considering how tiny that power level (for 5 seconds) and the fact tokamaks are innately unstable (includes ITER) this approach is a waste of time and money but logic is ignored far too often in fusion research.

Yes, this is supposed to be a workup to ITER dual gas work. They use the term "heating energy" which for us is just that energy needed to get the plasma going during those 5 seconds of operation. I would love to know the total energy load for that experiment and subtract the heating energy to see what was setup and waste energy. They do not dare to publish it of course. Why would a public announcement of this be necessary? It might prove harmful to the big news as too many folks who graduated elementary school can subtract and the best among them might see the light.
