Fusor Simulation

Occasionally I find time to use SIMION, an ion optics software, to conduct simulations of an IEC Fusor. Keep in mind that the simulation attached is far from the full picture as the ions are moving in a perfect vacuum. However, the ion "micro-channels" (star-mode) are very clearly visible.

As you will see in the video, I imported a 9" hollow sphere with a 2" inner grid held to a potential of -30kV. Ions we born randomly throughout the chamber with zero Kinetic Energy.

I wish I could afford this software. My mass spectrometer project would be far easier.
