fuse iron atom with proton
i try think to fuse proton with iron atom which produce 57Co
56Fe + 1p = 57Co
and the image is sketch of this experiment
57Co will emmit gamma ray from Electron capture as the theory said
which one will work nicely, left one or right one?

Evan,
Interesting idea, but I think the energy difference between a proton in the Fe nucleus and a free proton is too large (~8 MeV).
I believe you need to slow a proton down for this to work.
p + B11 has been discussed here many times before, and concidered to be beyond any amateur fusor, p + Fe should I imagine be even harder to achieve.

Evan
Steven is right
We do this at work it is called thin layer activation
I did put up a post of it with an proton beam in air of several uA at 12MeV
but the post has been deactivated by an administrator

Re: fuse iron atom with proton
If I recall correctly, even the center of the sun isn't energetic enough to fuse iron or anything heavier without going supernova.
If your experiment needs statistics, you ought to have done a better experiment.

Re: fuse iron atom with proton
when the isotop 57Co pruduce, gamma ray will emmited
i used this ray to release electron from wall of chamber, photoelectric theory
wall made from Cu (copper),if my calculate correct kinetic energy of electron is 4130.96751 eV
i think this energy can generate thousand volt dc energy until stoping voltage rised
if i replace iron with boron, will emmit alpha particle
we know alpha particle can't release electron from atom
i need all ideas

Re: fuse iron atom with proton
You do realize that none of the processes you are discussing here produce any measurable heat or current for a macro system? Your talk of voltage concerns me - these nuclear level events procduce no net measurable voltage/current on a large device (volt/ohm meter). That these processes produce trivially small levels of total energy, that while measurable by special detectors, will never produce any useable wattage, at all? Don't confuse measurable energies of singular particles with macro-level energy systems (like a fission reactor.) If your goal is to just measure these events, then that can be both a fun and an interesting experience. If you are motivated for doing these experiments thinking this can lead to a useful source of power, you mis-understanding what these process mean.

As John has said, what are you trying to do here that is 'novel'? Activation of iron is known... and...?
As you have not stated your experimental objective, it is a mystery as to why you are proposing this 'experiment'.

Ok friends
May be i will try another ways to find the usefull power source
fusor is fun device to learn the nature of plasma
