One of the larger models is actually a mini He3 counter. I wonder how the cost/efficiency compares with a typical Ludlum/Eberline counter.

The converted phone is really nice! That's a very good idea. The built in gamma spectrum analyzer is interesting. But i'm a bit concerned about the accuracy. Doesn't look like a lab gear, and it's purpose is not lab measurements either. Looks fancy . Must be very expensive.
Btw, what do you think? Is it a solid state detector? Or just a very small GM tube (seen that)?
THe neutron detector version has two cylinders. I'm guessing one is for neutrons, the other for gamma. But what do they use as a moderator for such a small device? Graphite? All the neutron detectors i've seen here have a big detector assembly.
Can this be some kind of solid state technology?

The little ones (pager and phone) use a Lithium Iodide Scintillator. Someone else can talk about the accuracy and eficiency of this kind of detector.

The gamma detection could be something like this.

I have seen a few circuits like this on the web.
It would fit in a small form factor.

Just think, when the War On Terrorism (TM) is over, all these nifty rad
detector goodies are going to end up in the surplus markets, where we'll be
able to pick them up for pennies on the dollar.
