HEAS #35 event announcement Saturday 5 October 24

Yes, it is the 35th year of holding this event for folks who are amateur experimenter scientists. Fusor builder/operators, Tesla coil builders, chemistry buffs, electronic gurus, etc.

The event is to be held, officially, on Saturday October 5th this year at my home and lab in Richmond Virginia. There will be a Friday, October 4th, late afternoon and evening gathering at my lab as a meet and greet for those staying overnight in motels. Friday, meet at my lab, 4PM to 6PMpm. Dinner on your own or in a group, 6-7:30 PM then 7:30PM to 11PM back at the lab.

Saturday, breakfast on your own or in pre-arranged groups, The event begins with the 10AM-4PM, much attended, flea market of all manner of things scientific as well as fusor demos. 4pm-5:30pm fleamarket clean up and informal group chats. 5:30 pm we have a prearranged large group eating event at "Kitchen 33" if you are interested. 7:30PM back at the lab for the evening prearranged talks and presentations. The event ends when the last die hard leaves the lab, usually between 1AM and 3AM Sunday morning.

The talks and presentations are by your request, NOW! We need to plan a speaker/presenter schedule in the evening. They are limited to 20-30 minutes. If you want to speak, let me know in your PM or response to this post. We have a large screen and video projector for power-point presentations or videos. Inputs are only standard 15 pin VGA plugs from your Computer to a monitor or video/ audio from your DVD player. We do have a smaller 32inch flat screen that can take most any input known to man. AV, HDMI, USB,etc.


The event is limited to 50 attendees max! So respond to this post or PM me to reserve your spot at the event. If you are selling, bring your goodies to spread out on the lawn in my side yard If your are driving you might bring a seat or table at your sales point. Whatever works for you. All sales are cash only or barter, obviously.

To those newbies who have no clue what this HEAS thing is, look back in the images du jour forum in the early October time frame to see photos of past years of the event. A typical example is seen here.

Note and important! I will, in time, in this post, edit and add in important additional documents, perhaps a total of four in all so check back and print all of them out. Real soon, I promise. My old list of restaurants and motels near me needs to be updated with associated area maps. Later.

I will attend - certainly during the flea market that I've missed twice attending only for one day during the talks. If I don't have a QM test or overwhelming HmW, I'd like to attend longer. UGH - at my age, homework should be just mowing the lawn!

I have never said this in the past....However, if any one wishes to spend the bucks to stay at a motel, I will be glad to have you stay over and see all my goods and setups, hobbies and other endeavors, Sunday and even into the next week!! That is an open offer. Arrange with me separately if you wish to linger.

You might think that after 35-50 attendees each year, that I would be glad to recuperate after such an event. However, over the 35 years I have had so many of you here, I can handle a day or two or three more if you should you feel inclined to a moderate extended visit. Naturally, if you want some of my special stuff, just bring cash for the over stay. We do have a UPS store nearby. Pack up yer car, pickup or box truck and leave with my best stuff. Prices drop each day as I get more weary of wheeling and dealing to make the lab more open and vast spaces available.

Suddenly, I feel old and am far more willing to let go of cherished things collected over a life-time of scrounging and doing. I realize the old adage of "He who dies with the most toys, wins", while funny, is not a reasonable course of action. So you can get my stuff now over days of thrashing through my stuff or wait until I am gone and pick over what is left.

I have instructed my wife that upon my death, ( I am in great health now!), or gross incapacity, to announce and hold one last super HEAS bargain sales event. All must go!! No marked prices, just go to her with an offer for a struggling widow and it is yours.

The big sale with me as the reasonable arbiter begins this year with HEAS 35 for any who wish to linger subsequently!

Early arrival stay-overs are not needed or wanted. You will be hitched to a plow and made to work and work hard, too, while I sit around and order you about to setup HEAS 35 for me. Friday is the earliest showup date. Show up before 3 or 4PM and you will be given some minor, light chores.

It is the Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.......etc. folks that will be welcomed to take away the stuff I was too tight on, Saturday. Drive a pickup truck or box truck.

Yes I would be willing to talk about Doug's "Gonzo mode'" fusor and how I was chosen to inherit it, as well as the so far unsuccessful attempts to replicate "Gonzo mode". I have some other thoughts on things to try, but the 'real life' work that helps pay the bills is keeping me real busy.

It is getting down to the wire about 15 days to the big event.

Some reiterative info. follows.

1. Nights get chilly here, and depending on the day even, you might want to pack a sweater or a jacket.
2. Based on my update above, if you plan on staying Sunday or Monday or whatever to loot my lab in private and get better deals, let me know so I can plan for that possibility.
3. I will have the usual fare. This consists of Chipos of many types in mini bags, gold fish, some form of sweets (minidonuts,etc.) and the usual drinks in the cooler, grape, orange,mountain dew, pepsi, ginger ale, and of course, water. If you require something special you are welcome to bring what you like and throw it in my ice chests or bring your own little ice chest.
4. On Saturday evening, we will eat as a group at Kitchen 33 in a large dining room reserved for us. You can order from the menu. ( I gave menus in he first post). The restaurant is about 8 miles from my lab. The food is great and not expensive. Folks should group up in cars for dinner.
5. There is a UPS store and mailing center about 1 mile from my lab.

re: 4 and 5 you must have a printout of the map and its key that I supplied in the original post above to find the restaurant and UPS store or rely on GPS. No whining that you couldn't find the places above.
