Hi from Adelaide, Australia,
I trained as a geologist but did all sorts of jobs in between, and am now, 45 years later, working with radioisotopes, rather in the detection of radioistopes. I am curious about the physical world, hence physics, and some answers I am looking for are often embedded in answers to other issues, and those are interesting enough to lead me to a new garden path of interest. I enjoy forums for the diverse questions that are either questions I would have loved to ask or way more interesting, and of course, the answers and the advice so kindly given. Thank you so much for letting me share your wonder.
Danielle

Re: Hi!
Greetings,
Your interest in learning has lead you to the right place. Nearly everyone on the forum shares a deep interest in understanding the phenomena that govern our world. Most here are focused on fusor work, but I'm sure you will find people happy discuss other related topics. Most of your questions can probably be answered by the FAQs, but it sounds like you've already been reading them.
As a side note, the rules of the forum require you to set your username as your real first and last name. I can't quite tell if that is your real name or not. If so, you can leave it be but it might be a good idea to place a space between the first and last names to prevent any confusion.

Hi!
Somehow, I missed your reply. Hence, I also missed the rule about the user name, which I believe had been generated by the site.
I have updated my profile and my user name . Yes, it is an awkward surname with way more letters than required to pronounce it.
The site has been a source of several gems regarding the detection equipment, especially for a neophyte like me regarding the physics of equipment. All the details members share make the detection process so much more exciting and help me understand how best to proceed and manage the analyses.
I hope you are enjoying as beautiful a fall as we are enjoying the start of Spring down here.
All the best,
Danielle Questiaux

Re: Hi!
The key is Get involved! Get involved by the doing of things via the hands-on imperative. While doing this, curiosity leads, naturally, to all manner of other questions that demand self-directed learning. This means not only reading for knowledge and comprehension but the doing and experiencing. This is a wonderment and makes for a ready person within society. This is a person prepared to make more of themselves in a world that needs that sort of person and temperament.

Re: Hi!
Hello and certainly an interesting last name!
Richard is correct, learning is all about having questions answered - either by simple reading or even better, doing experiments. No matter what you do, welcome and do participate in this forum. Do ask physics questions that are related to the forum's basic principles and if relative to fusors, do read the Faq's first before asking those types of questions.
