Update on Richard and Kit
Yesterday, Richard was in a fairly serious car accident. There was a torrential downpour occurring and two vehicles tried to occupy the same space and time. It did not work out too well.
Richard has a cracked sternum and a couple of cracked ribs.
I just talked to him by phone. He is now home from the hospital but in a great deal of pain.
On top of that, Richard's wife fell around two and half weeks ago. She had an injury to her lower back but is recovering albeit slowly. Richard has been helping her convalesce but both of them are on the mend.
It sounds like they will get by but if any of the people from near Richard are reading this, they may need a little assist for a few days. Richard said not but it is aways good to look in on friends.
I am sure Richard will be on the site in short order as he is not a man to sit still even with those fractures in his core.

Awful to hear. Richard is the heart of this forum. It's his constant watchful eye and helpful comments that keep things alive here, taking time to answer any and all questions, even when he has answered them tens of times before.

I guess both cars were in the "spin up" state (or spin down) which is not allowed in QM or on the road.
What a nasty thing to happen.
Hoping you and kit have a quick and complete recovery.

Having broken my sternum once, I understand only too well the pain and problems associated with that type of injury (no lifting anything over just a few pounds.) But it heals reasonably quickly so I am hoping he has a speedy recovery!

Frank just apprised me of this development.
I hope he knows how much we are all pulling for both of them.

Re: Update on Richard and Kit
Finally, I have my wits about me and limited desire to get on the computer. I really appreciate the well wishes and kindness directed toward Kit and myself by so many here. I have been taking care of kit now for 4 weeks after her fall and it appears this will continue for some time. I am working on 3 out of 8 cylinders, but working in her care as I recover myself. Again thanks for the kind concerns for, we, the walking wounded.

Great to hear from you Richard, glad to see you've got enough energy and focus to get back to the keyboard and screen.
I mean, that's great, but of course we all understand the necessity of focusing on the priorities, i.e. Kit and your mutual recovery.
We will all raise a glass to your restored health come October.

Again thanks for the support.
I have not been out to the lab in three weeks. Just too much going on... Slow going for a bit yet.

Re: Update on Richard and Kit
It has been a zoo at the Hull's house.
I am now 100% back in the game physically.
However, Kit fell August 7th and broke her pelvic ring. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks Aug 7-Aug 22. Transferred to a rehab facility on Aug22 where she still remains learning to walk and get upright on her own. Good progress as of today. She can now sit up on the edge of the bed and step into a walker, then turn to get into the wheel chair to go to the rehab gym. Once there, she is forced to undergo constant stand up then sitting down and can get up out of the wheel chair and into the walker take 6 steps in the walker to a bed-like item in the gym and sit on the edge. Then she is to get up into the walker on her own and go back to the wheel chair and sit. she did this 10 times on Friday and could not do #11 so they put her on the foot pedal machine and she pedaled for 15 minutes. She did upper body curls with a 3 pound bar, 3 sets of 10 motions. (her 16th daily rehab session)
The first day she had to have a large belt but on her, could not sit up in bed on her own and had to be painfully lifted into the wheelchair directly by 2 guys. They focused on upper body for a few days then she could barely rise to a walker and stand for only seconds before crying out that she had to sit down (day 5). She has come a long way from day one. Standing from the chair to the walker is easy now, but they haven't made her walk more than 16 feet while following her closely with a wheelchair at her back legs, just in case she weakens.
The best of all worlds, with no predictions, is she will be back home before HEAS. She will certainly be housebound on a walker and able to amble about. So many of you know that she normally sits at a card table in the shade of the big oaks and collects the $10 fee. This time you may have to come in the front door where the table will be set up and pay her.
Regardless, she tells me, HEAS will happen no matter what! I agree! We have over 39 signed up with all the regular local HEAS members that makes 44 or more.
Just an update of how the beat goes on here under moderate stress, but with me in good health and happy as always. I'll see some of you folks October 4th in the evening and more on the 5th for the big event and any hangers-on on subsequent days who are looking to buy me out. (As noted in a later posting in the HEAS #35 invitation thread in this admin forum)

Re: Update on Richard and Kit
It is a reminder to all that life is fleeting. As we get older, it becomes more and more apparent.
We are all pleased that both of you are doing better albeit with some challenges ahead for Kit.
With you latest health scare, we should all be appreciative of all of the HEAS events that you have hosted and brought so many of us together. Each HEAS at this point on is a a gift to all of us that will have an end date. Let's hope it is not for at least another decade or more but the number of HEAS that are left are certainly way less than the ones that have already been held.
I bring this up to prod those who have never attended to sign up and experience a HEAS while you still can. They are fun and informative events. Get em while you still can.
See you all there in a few short weeks.

Thanks for the updates, Richard.
I'm glad to hear you're fully recovered and able to be there to assist Kit toward hers.
I"m looking forward to seeing everybody at HEAS next month. It should be a big celebration.
