Hi Fusor.net,
I am a high school student in the process of designing and constructing a cylindrical fusor. My design is comprised of a 10.25" diameter x 8" high Pyrex cylinder terminated by two aluminum plates on which I will be attaching the voltage connections (isolated from the aluminum with ceramic tubing), a vacuum gauge, and vacuum port. The aluminum plates themselves are not charged; I will use two concentric wire grids. My question is in regard to the nature of admitting deuterium into the chamber. How would you suggest I do this? I've been looking at this leak valve (http://www.lesker.com/newweb/valves/gas ... cfm?pgid=0). Will this work for this application? Will I need a mass flow controller? I'll be using a Robinair 15600 as a vacuum pump and a 10L cylinder of deuterium.
Thanks,
-Sasha

Re: Leak valves and mass flow controllers
I'm no expert yet but just from reading hundreds of old posts the last few months I can tell you that it is not a good idea to go with a glass chamber for a real fusor. It is okay for a demo fusor. A real fusor will normally have two types of vacuum pumps. That information is in the FAQ's. Needle valves seem to be most commonly used to introduce deuterium.

Would this leak valve be appropriate for this application?

Guys... "New User Chat" area... Please...
If you question contains the following: "Would this ________ work?" Put it in the new users chat section.
