Neutron Generating Chips

Post by Mike Beauford »

Interesting idea of a neutron generating chip. Wasn't sure if this was the correct forum.

Interesting approach...

The article doesn't give away too many secrets, but by looking at the photo, I guess it is a miniature ion source and beam on target device. The sources appear to be mounted in a small chamber with a nozzle, so I guess it is under vacuum.

Looks like a higher pressure target neutron generator. The potting on the leads implies significant voltage. Don't know how wise it would be do use as an implant in the case of an open lead.

My guess would have been be a pyroelectric crystal accelerator like the one Amptek makes for x-ray generation, but the size scales seem a little too small.
