Geodesic Dome grid

Most designs of Grid I have seen use the "longitude and latitude structure"
Has anyone tried a series of hexagons to make a "buckminister Fullerine" type structure? The electric field would then be symetrical and golf ball in shape.

Farnsworth had several of those hexagonal networked "bucky" spheres in his systems in the 60's. I have seen images of them.

Not seen these. What was their performance like?

According to Gene Meeks and Bob Hirsch, effectively, zero difference in realized output with the fanciest and most beautifully constructed grids.

Univ. of Wisc. claims better focusing with a latitude-longitude banded grid.

The univ of Wisc. site is not clear on what they compare the latitude-longitude grid with.
I would like to see some results that are more convincing than just arm waving.

Sorry, that's all they have on that topic. I am sure we would appreciate a complete review from anyone wishing to re-undertake the task of multigrid design and testing.

Happy to do the design if someone wants to do the testing :-)
