5 Students from Todd Beamer High School take the first place in the regional technology award at Washington State University and $10,000 in prize money. They have created a miniaturized electronic ion pump using neodymium magnets for pulling deeper vacuums, and are in the final stages of packaging it. Who are these teenage whiz kids? The Firefly Plasma Research team with the North West Nuclear Consortium! www.nwnc.us.com/
They were hammered by multiple judges for over 6 hours with questions ranging from pure high energy physics to gas management technology and high voltage multipliers. These are the super geeks of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Special thanks goes to http://FUSOR.NET, Robert Tubbs, David Housley and he faculty of Todd Beamer High School without which this win would not have been possible!

This is great news! More success stories of engaged youth. It doesn't get in better than this. I am glad they picked up first place in the regionals.
Thanks for the credit offered to Fusor.net and the specifics for those here who worked intimately with you on the side. I am glad and gratified that we are doing things right here and hope we continue on that path.
Heart warming story here all around.
