I'm glad you brought that up. Does a fusor really have any application with BNCT since BNCT needs more of a beam of neutrons rather than a field? It seems like it would simply irradiate the entire brain rather than the boron concentrated in the tumor.

One of the more interesting applications I've seen is using fast protons from the D-He3 reaction to generate short-lived isotopes for positron emission tomography. Otherwise, you need a cyclotron, which has a big, power hungry magnet.

I worked with a guy from Lowell about 20 years ago that told stories of his (then) current research on this. They would start at the hospital, dose the guy's brain with boron, saw off the top of the guy's skull to expose the brain, then drive like maniacs in an ambulance to the test reactor at Lowell & expose them to neutrons. It actually worked.
