I'll also give a way to find out a username if you have a UserID number.
For both of these you need to be logged-in to the forum first.
1) Get your own user id.
After logging-in to the forum, look in the upper-right corner for your user name. Click it to get a short pull-down list. Click on 'Profile' to open your profile page.
The next part may depend on the browser you are using.
When you are on your profile page, most browsers will have the address box at the top filled with the URL that got you to your profile page. In my case it was:
Code: Select all
If you can't get the URL from the browser screen, there may be another way. In my browser I found that if I click my username to get the pull-down list where Profile is one choice, I can then right-click with the cursor over the 'Profile' choice. A box of options opens up and one of them is 'Copy link location'. If I click that I can open a text file in an editor and paste the copied link into it. The result is the same URL as shown above.
Once you have this URL you need to find the portion in it that says '&u=' the number after that is your UserID. From the above URL it said:
&u=2597 -- so 2597 is my user ID number.
2) Getting a username for some user ID number.
Let's look at an example from the list I posted earlier. Using one where I already found the user name, let's look at:
Assume we only had the UserID of 81.
We need to build a URL that takes us to this user's profile. We will start with this generic beginning of that URL for fusor.net:
To make the full URL we just need to add the ID number after the &u= at the end, so the full URL becomes:
If I put that in the address bar of the browser and hit enter, it takes me to the profile page for Carl Willis.
You need to be logged-in first to get to the profile, or you will get a page telling you to log-in.
So to summarise:
Code: Select all
