Russian Tube Recommendations

Post by Matt_Gibson »

Hi everyone,

I see that the Russian surplus tubes (He-3 type) seem to be the “go to” source for neutron detection lately…

I see many different tubes on eBay, but am having a hard time differentiating which ones are better than the others, especially since I can’t read Russian. I also see a number of different ones being mentioned here.

Are there a couple of “winners” to be on the watch for? I’m guessing that longer, skinnier tubes are better than short, fat?

I intend to use my Ludlum model 3, which I think can go up to 1500v, so would need to stay below that.

Thanks!
Matt
