Re: Deuterium lecture bottles on ebay
This is a great deal for those well heeled enough to afford it. Apparently they will sell to anyone. I have never seen this before.
The price is about right. The cylinder is yours to keep and not re-fillable in keeping with the norm. The shipping is within norm as it is a special hazardous shipping issue. extra $$
You get .3% normal H2 non- fusible gas.
and .001% God knows what gas
This looks like a real company, but I don't know. If they are, we need an address and phone number.
I would guess you might be able to knock about $100 off the grand total if you were a corporation or company ordering from Cambridge Isotopes. However I haven't bought this stuff in 5 years. Prices do go up ya' know.
Over all, not bad. Hey, it's an easy path if you got th' bucks

Re: Deuterium lecture bottles on ebay
I looked at the Ebay listing. In the photos, the labels do not look correct for a flammable gas! The cylinders pictured have green label which is for non-flammable compressed gases, say neon or xenon. For hydrogen or deuterium it should be a red label with a picture of a flame.
The more reactive the materials, the more spectacular the failures.

Bob,
I'm hoping the picture's for size.
I'm more curious what regulator the bottle is configured for.

Looks like a good deal. Less than the current price for a pair of BTI dosimeters!
Regarding the green labels, not worried in the slightest. If you look at all the other gasses being sold by this outfit, they use the exact same file photo for cylinder size reference.
Jim, the listing shows a CGA350 valve being attached.....like this one:

I wonder how much grief the hazmat shipping would be.

The grief shows up in your wallet. There are no issues for the recipient. The shipper has to pay the tariff when he ships and will pass all that right on to you. Here it is $75 shipping. UPS or FedEx has the grief of handling it according to the federal regs. (no air shipment, etc.) Look for a lot of labeling and red stripping all over the package and perhaps a pouch with a MSDS sheet attached if ordering Deuterium.

Re: Deuterium lecture bottles on ebay
The last time I bought deuterium (about two years ago), Cambridge Isotope Laboratories had the best price. They currently list their lowest purity deuterium (98.8%) at $314 for 50 liters. They also offer a 25 liter size for $167. This does not include the shipping charge.
