Re. your 1.7 comment:
It'd be shame to destroy a big 80 kV capacitor to get its fluted HV bushings. Anybody know if such things are naturally vacuum-tight?

Yes, the ceramic to metal seals on many of such capacitors are vacuum tight. Specifically the hermetically sealed, oil-filled ones with a steel case. My current feedthrough is made from a NOS one that was intended to go on a 60kv capacitor. I purchased it from Richard Hull a while back, and that information that was bestowed upon me. It has served me well thus far, and has already been pushed beyond the maximum rating.

no deuterium, just the plasma?
