Interesting Plasma

Post by Emrys Peets »

Hi all!

After working out kinks in my vacuum, I decided to go for a test run with my tantalum spiral grid. I was able to get a hole threaded into my feedthrough and we have a replaceable grid system now (yes this grid is ugly).

Yes, ugly, but its working and that's the ticket.

Ugly? Who says?

I think whatever has function has beauty, regardless the aesthetic qualities, which are all subjective anyway.

The more novel approaches to this science we can encourage, the better,

And if it works, it's beautiful.

Paul, I guess Richard agrees it's ugly. (but I love the plasma aesthetic)

We were having trouble winding the tantalum and couldn't get much uniformity, but I have some ideas to better wind. I also have an interesting grid concept using tungsten wire and tantalum knots. Pretty soon (next semester) we will start running simulations to optimize such parameters.

Ah, does this qualify my UT group for the plasma club?
