Fusor build: parts and construction

Post by Jeremy Sims »

Have not posted for awhile but parts are coming together.
1. Main Chamber- 4.625 cf 6 way cross with a cooling jacket on one arm. Came with a viewport.
2. 4.625 cf to 4.5 adapter
3. 4.5 cf bellows valve
4. 4.5 to kf40 adapter. Attaches valve to cold trap on diffusion pump.
5. Varian HS-2 diffusion pump
6. Welch 1400 roughing pump. Will probably be changing this out as the manual for the HS-2 says the backing pump should be 5cfm.
7. GX-1000 x-ray transformer. Bought the whole machine. The transformer hunt has been crazy ups and downs. Almost had a Rigaku crystal diffractometer, someone got it last second. First major goof was the portable vet x-ray. I will be using a lot of the parts from the GX-Pan to construct the chassis for my fusor.

Nice solid hardware to start with.

I own one of those transformers, they're pretty nice - but consider pulling a mild vacuum on it while it's under oil to displace the air bubbles.

Thanks! I think I came across one of your older posts where you were trying to figure out which lead was what while I was searching for information on it. That post really helped and I will definitely try to vacuum it.
