i was wondering if it is possible to achieve p-11b fusion in a fusor and if so what kind of conditions would be required?

Forget it. You could not bring about the conditions needed. A fusor is not the ideal way to do it, anyway. P-B11 is a dream that just will not be done by the average amateur. There are many old postings regarding this dead dog.

Richard is right, but here are a few thoughts as to why:

1. Cross section for pb11 likely favors much higher voltages, ie somewhere around 150 kV. These are very dangerous voltages and really to be avoided by amateurs. I work in the utility space and am generally comfortable around high voltage, but weird and unexpected things happen with these levels, and when weird things happen it doesn't take much for someone to end up dead, or your equipment to end up fried.

2. Products of reaction are 3 alphas, very little neutrons from side reactions. This makes it hard to measure and see if you are actually doing fusion. If you did manage to build a rig to run 150 kV x rays would be crazy and create all kinds of noise as well. You would have a hard time convincing anyone your data was of any use.

3. actually getting H and B into the fusor. You have to get both into the fusor as a gas, this means likely pentaborane or decaborane. Both of which are nasty central nervous system toxins. Add to that the fact that boron will be vapor deposited on to the inside of the fusor creating conduction paths on your insulators.

Those are three reasons off the top of my head why PB11 is a bad idea.

On the plus side, there are still many mysteries to be explored with a fusor running D-D. Geometry, oscillating voltage, plating inside of chamber with D loading metal, cooled grids, partially shielded grids, etc etc. There are many questions you can explore without trying to kill yourself with PB11.
