Group Buy of BTI Bubble Dosimeters

This area is for discussions involving any fusion related radiation metrology issues. Neutrons are the key signature of fusion, but other radiations are of interest to the amateur fusioneer as well.

Group Buy of BTI Bubble Dosimeters

Post by taylorw »

Hey Guys,

It looks like there is considerable interest in a group buy of bubble dosimeters. I too am needing to do a buy as I need more than one and the one I have is over 2 years old, I think. Even in its old age (1 year guaranteed), it is still ok, but re-compression is too slow for multiple runs. There is some interest from some professors here and the RSO, so we may be getting many.

Anyway if I could get a list going here, I will try to include y'all in my buy, but no promises yet to when they will be purchased

Thanks,
- Taylor

Mine is shot totally. Full of large bubs, won't reset any more!

I want a new one, but funding is an issue unless the order is a month or so off.

I would also like one. However, like Geo, I am about a month away from the funds.

The price as of April was $139 a piece, still with a S&H cost of $150 and a minimum order of $300. I will factor in the S&H averaged out over all the orders and the additional shipping to you. I would say around $150 total.

As for when, I think it will be probably about month.

Taylor,

Do you have a business that can buy them?

Thanks,

Re: Group Buy of BTI Bubble Dosimeters - (Deuterium?)

Since some people on this forum have better luck than others obtaining deuterium, has there been any thought on a "group buy" for this necessary item?

Unfortunately I do not, however if Airgas falls through with today's possible deuterium source then I will be forced to start a business to get that, so I could at that point get the detectors also.

Oops, just noticed you wrote Taylor not Tyler... oh well, it's late

That would be great, however it's not possible to ship the compressed gas without being a company setup for hazmat shipments. One way to do this for certain members might be to take orders and bring it to HEAS each year, but you can't fly with it either so that would only work for people in driving distance.

While I don't have a neutron producing fusor "yet" this looks like the perfect moment to snag one while the price is right. Count me in!

Bubble Tech Industries (BTI). They are the only supplier of them currently. It is pretty lucrative, and it probably would be even more successful for manufacturer or a distributer in the US. I was talking to some Navy Nukes the other day who had just been given a talk by the BTI people and they said they are pretty secretive about how they make them.

While I was able to purchase Deuterium, I am not sure a group buy would work so well on that one because of HazMat costs, etc.

I will ask my contact there about those, are they a regularly stocked item?

no, they don't even advertise them, evidently it is an experimental model, but I can vouch that they work. George Dowell

I am also interested in obtaining one of the neutron detecting dosimeters, depending upon the model being purchased. Please advise which model(s) are to be purchased.
