Neutron scattering and energy loss

This area is for discussions involving any fusion related radiation metrology issues. Neutrons are the key signature of fusion, but other radiations are of interest to the amateur fusioneer as well.

Neutron scattering and energy loss

Post by jim-frank »

I've figured out how to calculate an approximate number of interactions per centimeter for neutrons in paraffin, but what I can't quite get is how much energy each neutron loses in a scattering interaction with carbon and hydrogen nuclei. Is there an Internet resource that will give me equations? I live in a small town with a nice but poorly stocked library, and getting books by interlibrary loan usually takes months. I want to work up some relatively realistic figures on shielding by both borated paraffin and borated water. Thanks.
