Radiation Detector Haul

This area is for discussions involving any fusion related radiation metrology issues. Neutrons are the key signature of fusion, but other radiations are of interest to the amateur fusioneer as well.

Radiation Detector Haul

Post by Jerry Biehler »

Local university was clearing out stuff since they have to move their science department because they are building a new building. I got to go in and get and grab goodies. Got a bunch of vacuum stuff and a bunch of geiger tubes and a couple scintillators, one a Bicron for X-ray diffraction and parts of another one with a 1" scintillator. Also a couple CD probes not pictured.

Trying to find the preamp power requirements for the Bicron, looks like they use them with ortec power supply with ground on pin 1 on the DB9 being ground and pin 6 being -24v. Does this sound right?

Got the complete Bircron detector hooked up and it works. My LeCroy scope has a histogram mode and I set it up for max pulse height and this is what I got with some U ore.

Not the greatest resolution bit at least I know it works.
