DIY gas filled proportional tubes

This area is for discussions involving any fusion related radiation metrology issues. Neutrons are the key signature of fusion, but other radiations are of interest to the amateur fusioneer as well.

You can give it a go if you have a stock of tubes and can afford to lose one to the effort. Proportional tubes that use air or some easy to obtain gas are far too easy to just go ahead and make from scratch, especially for experimenting with as you can design them for this specific purpose.

Building proportional detectors is surprisingly easy, the issues are with making them usable for any specific application.
