testing the electron gun

For the design and construction details of ion guns, necessary for more advanced designs and lower vacuums.

would any one please let me know the process of testing an electron gun with 40keV energy and low current ?
how about if there would be a RF frequency on grid(500 MHz)
many thanks

I'm not sure what aspect of the gun's performance you are interested in, but if the goal is just to see if electrons are coming out, you could use a Faraday cup downstream of the gun in a vacuum environment to collect the electrons.

The Faraday cup is, in essence, just an insulated piece of metal that intercepts charged particles and allows you to measure charge and current directly. A rough energy measurement could be made by putting a negative potential on the cup and raising it to the point that current falls to zero.

What were your reasons for the 500 MHz grid?
