Someone with a little more electronics experience can probably help with this but is it possibly to get a bunch of cheap 6kv neon sign transformers and string them together in series, it would have to be 6 or so of them to get even 25kv if there's even a little resistance but would something like this even be possible?
I understand that you cant just sting them together with diodes. Additionally would the rectifier have to be after all of it is series together or does each one need to be DC?
Is the solution that you have to somehow store the charge in a capacitor and then series the capacitors together? Has anyone done anything like this before?

No, it is not. But you can use multiple cheap neon modules like this:-
