Greetings,
I have been searching for a cost effective method for powering my fusor. After researching the forums, and looking over ebay, I was curious to see if the combination of a 12kv 30mA NST with a voltage tripler from a CRT monitor would be a sufficient power supply. My questions about this are: 1. Could the voltage tripler handle the current? 2. What effects would the tripler have on the NST's 30mA? 3. Are there any other issues with this supply?
Here are the links to the items:
NST - http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEON-SIGN-TRANS ... 339143b7fb
Voltage Tripler - http://www.ebay.com/itm/ECG-538-High-Vo ... 43c4837a0c
I apologize for asking to be spoon fed information, I just couldn't find any information on this set-up.
Thanks,
Caleb
P.S. If the above supply isn't sufficient, I'm assuming this is suitable?

Its not a bad question but!
The CRT tripler is run at around 15kHz to give 2-5 mA output at 20 -30kV
so the current you could expect running this tripler at 60Hz would be around 50uA a 25th of the 15kHz drive frequency
secondly the tripler built using 12 to 18kV PIV diodes and the increase of voltage from your NST is likely to destroy the diodes

Adding to John's admonition. 100 % of the potted triplers I have seen are positive HV output. No good even it it handled 2 amps.

Alright, thank you for the responses, I was just trying to seek out an inexpensive power supply. Do you know if the second supply I posted would be any good?

You need to do your own looking not keep asking questions
This is a positive output supply you would need to modify it to go negative --not a trivial task
