I tried to disassemble our XRD diffractometer X-ray tube side connector to do some machining of the Teflon insulator to fit another tube but after removing all screws tried to pull out the cable and the connected contacts which seems are soldered to the cable. Cable came out a few mm but I realized inside the Teflon insulator filled with insulator material and cable will not come out more and I tried to reassemble the plug again but checking an ohmeter I realized central connection is lost. XRD diffractometers cables have two wires for carrying filament current, both wires are at almost the same high voltage (20kv-60kv). By pushing and holding cable inside using some force connection comes back but when I release the force, again I have disconnected central contact. By drilling two new hole on the brass piece and fastening screws I managed to hold the cable in a little bit pushed status and central connection is OK now but I am not sure it will work. I am not sure central pin connection to the cable wire is a solder type or touching type connection? If it is solder type then connection is broken but if it is a touching type then my method should have fixed the problem. Any comment or advice on how to get around this problem?

Please comment if you had similar experience. Also please send if you have schematic of cutaway view of this plug to see how cable is connected to the contact pins.

Anyone knows what is the quality of the white material insulating the contacts?

As can be seen the white insulator above seems where two pieces stocked with a special HV glue during assembling. Any one know what king of glue can be used in high voltages (about 60kv)?

I am planing to find the insulator and do the machining of two pieces and use HV glue to stick them together to repair this connector because center contact is broken from inside.

At the moment I need to know what material to choose for insulator and what material for the glue.

what is a king of glue??

however most HV joints like this use PVA yes white wood working glue
you can buy the US$2000 per tube specialist HV glue or the US$5 per bottle for woodworking both seem to be the same

Thank you for the reply. Sorry for fast writing and mistakes. Connector already disassembled and after soldering centre wire assembled again. Material looks is Teflon and adhesive seems is lacquer (not sure of the type).
