First demo fusor vacuum pump

Every fusor and fusion system seems to need a vacuum. This area is for detailed discussion of vacuum systems, materials, gauging, etc. related to fusor or fusion research.

First demo fusor vacuum pump

Post by JRizzardi »

Creating first demo fusor here, and have a choice between 2 pumps that i can buy without ordering online.
This one with a 75 micron max:

or this one for an extra 50 but with a 25 micron max:

also, any suggestions as to a cheap, yet reliable outer chamber for my fusor?

Many thanks!

James,

Take a look through the vacuum FAQs. Lots of new people come on the forum and ask questions about these same pumps and frankly, always get the same answer. So, I highly recommend looking through other posts to find the wealth of knowledge that is really stored on this site.

I will tell you however, that these pumps will work for a demo fusor but will not function very well for a fusor at fusion power levels and vacuum levels. I recommend checking around ebay for a good used two stage pump like a Welch 1400.

Best of luck,
