Re: Best Vacuum Pump
Hello:
Maybe try to search prior threads on this subject.... I noticed that you are focusing on "smaller" direct drive pumps, is there a reason for this like portability etc? If portability is not a major concern, then you may also consider larger capacity pumps, and belt drive pumps which have many advantages over direct drive pumps. I am down to two pumps now, one small Varian 4.5 cfm direct drive pump, and one rebuilt Hyvac 17cfm belt drive pump. If I had to choose between the two: My belt drive pump would be my choice hands down for several reasons:
1. Long Life.....It runs at 1/3 of the rpm's = Less wear and a much longer life.
2. Lower Operating Temperature = Lower ultimate vacuum, and more oil choices.
3. No oil suck back problems if something goes wrong.
One other often overlooked consideration is parts cost. Some great pumps from Europe for example, can have absurd parts costs if you ever need to replace anything. I once scored a great Swiss Oerlikon pump on ebay for dirt cheap, it seemed like an awesome deal at the time, until I priced the replacement parts needed for the rebuild. It ended up in the dumpster! Check out the prior threads on this subject, there is so much great information on this subject here. In some ways the answer to this question is very subjective, the best pump being the one that works for you : )

Re: Best Vacuum Pump
yea so im 95% sure my leybold d16a is done so this is the pump i found this replacement for it and will this work
http://cgi.ebay.com/PRECISION-VACUUM-PU ... 4022031553
or should i got with this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/PRECISION-VACUUM-PU ... 4022031553
because it has a higher cfm than the precision one i like both since they are in the budget (less than 400 for a good running pump) i need this one for star mode and ill back either one up with a diffusion pump for fusion
