Does anybody have experience with finding space for fusioneering?

Every fusor and fusion system seems to need a vacuum. This area is for detailed discussion of vacuum systems, materials, gauging, etc. related to fusor or fusion research.

Does anybody have experience with finding space for fusioneering?

Vacuum work can be done in the house to a significant degree, but at some point one inevitably wishes to do metalwork, or work with greasy mechanical pump rebuilds, or build huge racks of instrumentation, or something that is not really viable for a typical apartment.

This is no problem for those who are lucky enough to own or rent houses with garage workshops, but it's a big problem for those who aren't. Living in Silicon Valley on an income that's comfortable but no more than comfortable, it doesn't seem like it would ever be a possibility.

Hackerspaces are nice, but besides all the normal problems inherent in sharing, most aren't focused on heavy metalworking and they're not a place for the long-term assembly of bulky equipment.

Does anybody have any experience with how to find space to work on fusion and vacuum in when you're restricted to living in apartments?
