Re: Turbo Pump Cleaning

<r>i had a very similer problem with my turbo, though that was due to backstreamed oil from the roughing pump. in my case i found that most of the nasty brown smelly stuff had collected in a small cavity under the lower bearing, that was accsessable by removing a small pannel on the underside of the...

scintilation plastic finish

<t>i have a lump of scintilation plastic that will form the basis of my neutron detector. currently it is thinly painted with white paint, with one rather hazy and scratched side left clear to couple to the PMT. i am going to polish the serface exposed to the PMT, but what should i do with the other...

Re: how does one measure the power of an ion beam?

thanks, you have given me lots to think about as i suspected, building something accurate is a non-trivial matter.

how does one measure the power of an ion beam?

<t>i am planning some experaments to investagate the power of various ion beams and i am wondering what the best way to go about this is.<br/> <br/> the options would seem to be:<br/> measurements of the heating power of the beam which would require a thermaly insulated target of low attomic weight ...

<r>you may not need the Be John. i have just been reading the 'anutronic fusion' wikipedia artical which states other reactions as being :<br/> p + 11B → n + 11C<br/> 4He + 11B → n + 14N<br/> <URL url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aneutronic_fusion">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aneutronic_fusion</UR...

<r>Thanks Richard, thats a very usefull summery.<br/> <br/> the point about most D-D fsion in the larger volume takeing place in the inter grid space is interesting. i wonder about the linerarity of increasing size and voltage though<br/> <br/> i agree efficencey is not likely to improve, but there ...

Re: Vacuum for free..

<t>you would still need a chamber to keep the gas IN, or it would be of and away beffore it ever got ionised. i suppose you could use ion guns, but if your going to build an ion guns, you might as well use them for thrust (as is being done). <br/> <br/> it would be handy to live on a space station a...

Re: D2 Injector installed on fusor - photos & notes

<r>thanks, i am flattered by the UoM comparison, i don;t think i'm quite in there legue (yet <E>;)</E> ) the small bright blob at the base of the plasma jet is fairly standard and indicates the preasure is getting slightly lower. it will become more defined, beffore fadeing away, leaving you with a ...

Re: D2 Injector installed on fusor - photos & notes

<r>i think i agree with Richard Hull on this one, that you have more preasure than you think here. with my turbo switched off, and just my single stage rotary pump, the preasure drops through the fan-out plasma jet stage and i get a single thin plasma jet and a small resonably well defined poissor. ...
