Re: Integrated Lab Measuring and Controlling (Labview, Labjack, ...)

I have also been exploring MegunoLink with an Arduino Mega controller for my system as well. So far I am quite happy with it, and customer support has been great. I'm only about maybe 1/3 done with my code, but it has made creating a user control interface with monitoring and data collection very ea...

Re: Request for Verified Specifications of Amateur Accelerators

Chris Mullins, Thanks a bunch for the specs on your cyclotron! It is great to see that you have very repeatable methods for determining beam current and energy. I definitely look forward to seeing how your effort progresses, and if you can hit your peak beam energy! I have looked over Tim Koeth's wo...

Re: Request for Verified Specifications of Amateur Accelerators

Ian Krase, Once I have achieved (or at least attempted) first beam, I will begin releasing information and specs on the accelerator. It is nothing new or novel - it is in fact a very old accelerator technology, that, as far as I am aware, has not been built at the amateur level yet (though I could b...

Request for Verified Specifications of Amateur Accelerators

For those of you who have been following my progress, builds, and posts (both on these forums and in other hobbyist communities), you will know that I am currently in the process of designing and building an industrial-grade/research-class accelerator, which I hope will open up a new level of accele...

Final Design and Molflow Simulations of a Micro Propulsion Testing Chamber

This is just brief overview of the second of my three major vacuum chambers used with my modular pumping station that I have recently posted about. This also includes an overview of the Molflow simulations used to simulating ultimate pressures of the chamber during pumpdown for various levels of con...

Final Design and Molflow Simulations of a Small Scale Multipurpose High Vacuum Chamber

This post will briefly cover the final design details as well as some of the simulation results for the Small Scale Multipurpose High Vacuum System V5 assembly. I have posted extensively about this system in previous postings. The final design of the chamber is as follows: 2,75in Conflat High Vacuum...

Re: Final Design and Molecular Flow Simulations of the Integrated High Vacuum Test Stand

Chris, No problem, glad that the info is of help to you! I would say that for anyone looking to do serious vacuum engineering and analysis on their system, Molflow+ is really a must, and an incredibly powerful tool. This was really the final verification stage for my systems before I go on to buildi...

Final Design and Molecular Flow Simulations of the Integrated High Vacuum Test Stand

New update regarding the recent work on my vacuum systems. If you have been following the progress up until this point, you will know that I have covered the design of my system ad-nauseam, with CAD, thermal simulations, vacuum engineering calculations, and walking through the entire process. The de...

Re: TEFLEX seals for ISO-K

For reference, the numbers I found for chilled flanges in vacuum texts are in comparison for a system that can be pumped down to only 10^-8 normally. With chilling, the ultimate pressure dropped to 10^-9. I believe this was for diffusion pumped systems. While chilling would not see very much gains i...

Re: TEFLEX seals for ISO-K

Georg, If you want to get lower with elastomer seals, then the seal needs to be chilled below ambient temperature. Viton, buna-N, butyl, and even teflon have been shown to be good to down to 10^-9 torr if chilled to about 6C or less. In order to accomplish this when between flanges in a system, both...
