<t>Very, very nice George! <br/> Can’t wait to see how well this will work out.<br/> <br/> Most of the stuff seems to be stainless steel and such. Is the tin can part of the heater a possible problem? They (tin cans) tend to have coatings inside (plastics or flash metals) and soft welds at the seams...

<t>Thx Richard.<br/> <br/> "You would only ad borax to candle wax if you wanted to make a neutron SHIELD" <br/> That is why I asked if borax or other critical impurities were somehow introduced in commercial candle making as this would have defeated the purpose since these corona tubes are not that ...

Re: Alpha-particle spark detector

Very neat Carl.
I'll build one this afternoon. Just needed a good excuse to play with the metal lathe.
Can you detect cosmics with it too?

That was my impression too, but but wanted some feedback just in case before casting several dozen old candles to their new role in life.... after rapture.... tomorow.
Thanks.

Re: Wax moderators and casting info.

<t>Found a few informative threads about wax or parafine as moderator. Just got my Russian corona tube today ( 0.5" diag by 5" long) and I am planning to use a large coffee container to contain the wax. I found enough candles around the house to fill at least two of these 6" diag by 8" tall cans. I'...

Re: Scintillation Detection via Digital Camera... experiment

Hi Dan, I can send you the FTS images should you be interested. The camera has a back-thinned TEK512 CCD and a 16 bit A/D but on the forum I send the much smaller TIF version (with only 8 bit levels to reduce its size) and to further reduce its size I use "medium" with Win Powertools to keep it reso...

Re: Scintillation Detection via Digital Camera... experimental results indicate otherwise.

<t>Last try today.<br/> <br/> Used the same setup as previous measurements above and did a 4 hours exposure with a full 311g container of KCl 100% salt substitute.
