Re: New Uranium find at Bryson City, NC

<t>i have to add that yes indeed, some of the locals like their target practice more than they like to ask questions. in addition, the area is VERY unstable. do not try to go there alone, and make sure you have a cell phone in case of accidents.<br/> <br/> that said, it is quite a find! there were s...

Re: Argon Tube Power Source

<t>ok, i have to ask, why do you use a 40 watt lamp as a current limiter? why not use a heavy duty resistor? yes you would still have thermal issues with the resistance, but it would be way more stable that a lamp filiment. <br/> <br/> also, have you tried any other type of load on the output side o...

Re: Looking for a 3" NaI(Tl) Crystal

i'll second richard's suggestion for a source of scintillation plastic. OE tech has a lot of it and for cheap! plus, don is really great to deal with.

Re: Looking for a 3" NaI(Tl) Crystal

<t>heh, very true!<br/> have you considered scintillation plastics? i know they aren't terribly sensative to gammas, but might be a more affordable option. not sure, but there might be a specific plastic for gamma detection.... well after a brief check of the bicron site, the general purpose bc-412 ...

Re: electron slinger

well, depending on your current, a relay or fast contactor would be the easiest method. there are also some fast scr's out there that are pretty easy to use.

Re: Heavy Ion Gun

<r>well, 'the bell jar' had some articles about using microwave oven magnetrons to produce plasmas with heavier gasses. perhaps that could be of use. (<URL url="http://www.belljar.net">www.belljar.net</URL>)<br/> <br/> i would think that an ion gun for heavier gasses would be essentially the same wi...

Re: Focus fusion???

<t>well, i looked at the site. it has very little information about the working of the device but from what i can tell it seems an awful lot like they are trying to produce a spheromak fusion device. oh yeah, and the hydrogen-boron gas mixture... do i even need to say anything here? <br/> then there...

<t>i thought this was a good place to post this.<br/> <br/> today's edition of the asheville citizen times had a small article on the front page about how duke power is wanting to build a new nuclear plant somewhere in the carolinas. the time table suggested is that the site should be choosen by the...
