Re: Coronavirus pandemic

Facebook is a for profit, you get zero free speech rights here (by law) standard American corporation media vehicle. Again, I take strong issue with the claim that since some carbon is used to make solar, hydro, nuclear and wind that these are just as bad as coal or not worth the effort - that is ju...

Re: Xray high voltage multiplier

While certinly that is a HV driver x-former - its 12 kV going into a many stage voltage multiplier - the issue is very HV x-formers tend to be very low current output devices and that is the bane of VM. Especially half wave ones. I previously posted on a site that allows one to calculate the final v...

Re: Research facility construction

Amazing - I second Richard's response. Especially good to add solar; producing one's own energy (while the sun shines) is both nice for the environment (though Richard's points on the subject are more on spot than mine as far as net results), saving money in the long term is very practical. As too a...

Re: Research facility construction

John, just incredible. What will be the focus, might I ask? Certainly not for a simple fusor - lol. Minor aside: why the very high ceilings - second floor for office space, maybe? Dan, I'm a few hundred ft ASL and thirty above the nearest small creek. So, not too worried on that score; snow, maybe -...

Re: Research facility construction

Excellent points and I really like the idea of a heat pump both to solve the issue of year round work (which I will really need since this is also since I will be performing serious research besides the fun fusor stuff) and ease of installation; so thanks - didn't think of that aspect or device. Alw...

Research facility construction

Well, thanks to Nathan's excellent post's, I've decided to move forward with building a dedicated research shed/building. I'll have both 120 and 220 service as well as cold water & drain access inside. I ordered all the required building material yesterday - wood, concrete, electrical, plumbing and ...

Re: Foreline valve and trap - what is neccesary?

Until you get a proper valve, the simple solution is to leave the mechanical pump running - turn off the turbo; then allow it to spin down (assuming you have no mid-point vent built into the turbo body.) After it stops, turn off the mechanical pump and let air into the system. No oil vapor back flow...

Re: Nathan Marshall - Fusor Progress

Cai, you should start your own thread with such questions rather than continue on this thread. As for voltage multipliers (I built a monster one of over 100+ kV using large door knob caps), one does not need a full wave system (as shown in his drawing) - a half wave voltage multiplier (while, of cou...

Re: Vacuum Chamber Construction

Have you considered differential thermal expansion heating/cooling? That is, heat the assembly in a regular oven to four hundred Fahrenheit or so, then use ice to chill the bolts. Next, using vice grips locked on to the bolts try and rotate them? Failing that, I've had luck drilling such bolts nearl...
