Re: BNC Thread Size

Hi Jake

Beware not all BNC are hermetical.
We learned it the hard way...
See Andrew Seltzmann posts related to ion source construction.

Re: Fusor analogy to quadrupole mass spectrometer

What bothers me of this approach is the high vacuum required for a working mass quadrupole or ion trap.
Seems to be far away from the fusor typical operating pressures.

Re: A theoretical discussion based on data re. fusor conditioning fusion

Seems to me that your observation is right.
Will wait for your analysis.

Re: A theoretical discussion based on data re. fusor conditioning fusion

Dan Thanks for that article. Richard often comments on a progressive increasing of neutron production, after hours/days of fusor running. May be that explained based in the surface fusion suggested in the paper? Hours of bombarding the grid with deuterium rise the deuterium stored on grid metals the...

Re: Titanium walls

Right, good option.
Probably all we tend to start thinking from our own set up.
Surely I suggested the sputter version because I have a small 2.75” CF cross.

Re: Titanium walls

Hi Frank Of course you are right! The thread is related to the success of Japanese researchers who improved the neutron generation when using a chamber with titanium walls. See comments by Dan Knapp and Richard. Focusing on titanium, I suggested a cheaper way than a full titanium chamber, just depos...

Re: How to test the quality of heavy water (D2O)?

Hi Rich

Thanks for the warning. I had forgotten the hygroscopic property of D2O.

There is a US thesis from the 60's about chromatographic separation of H2, HD and D2 with packed column and low temperature.

Re: How to test the quality of heavy water (D2O)?

googled: 10% heavier.
For precise density measurements use a picnometer.

Re: How to test the quality of heavy water (D2O)?

Harald You answer your question. Different qualities offered have their own spec. Having doubts of your provider, change it or test it. Typically % of heavy water is evaluated by IR spectrometry. See this plot. The-typical-IR-spectra-of-water-with-varying-content-of-deuterium.png May be by density m...

Re: Titanium walls

Ian, John thank you for your comments.
Yes, will require some additional equipment but someone will be able to do.
