Re: Attack of the killer caps

Larry, do you have any data on the pressure needed for mega current pulse. I can only get data up to 40 ma with my current supply. Seems to be a very steep curve but if the pressure is too low then the peak pulse will not be what I would calculate for a shorted cap.

Re: License exempt Alpha sources

If I did my math right, it would take 9 half lifes to get down to the activity of 1uc of Am 241. That is 3.4 years if the half life is 138 days!

Do you think 4 of these fresh Polonium sources would be enough to provide significant ionization within a fusor?

Re: Attack of the killer caps

<r>Larry, <br/> <br/> A couple of months ago I bought 8 big caps. Each one is 1,500 joules so together, the bank is 12,000 joules with a voltage rating of 30 KV. A little on the low side for voltage but mega power. <br/> <br/> I briefly thought about pumping my fusor down, back filling to around 15 ...

Image resizing/editing software

<t>It is ALWAYS best to take the highest resolution image that your camera can take. You can always edit it down later. Suppose you get that once in a lifetime shot and you used crappy resolution to shoot it? You paid for a high resolution camera so use the resolution. <br/> <br/> For editing, Photo...

Re: Eberline PNR 4 ?

<t>Gregg,<br/> <br/> From what I have heard, the REM500 is a great instrument. I also heard that us common folk could never get one because it contains around a half a micro Curie of Cm 242 which requires a source license. Do you know if that is true and if the REM500 does have a built in neutron so...

Re: What does "current limited" mean?

<t>The resistance of your fusor depends on pressure (and the type of gas in it). At any given pressure and gas, you will have a particular resistance. Since voltage divided by current equals the resistance(V/I=R), then for any given pressure, there will be a unique resistance between the inner and o...

Re: why just one potential well?

High bull factor stuff written by somebody at LANL looking to get or justify funding. Seems that throwing in a couple of noun strings to sound like you know what you are talking about gets you funding. Go figure.

Re: The theoretical musings continue.

And the answer is:

Quantum fluctuations. Matter from seemingly nothingness.

Now that is the energy to harness!

Re: why just one potential well?

<t>The multiple potential well has been part of the evolution of my fusor project for a while now. I think it is a great idea that has not been fully explored. <br/> <br/> A few of my earlier posts were from my soapbox and were about the possibilities of resonance inside the fusor. The idea of reson...
