My Pfeiffer passes through a resonant point at every start up and shut down lasts about a second or two. I figure that is normal. At least it pumps well so I'm not concerned. Everything has a resonance point.

Re: Bell and whistles diffusion pump based vacuum system.
I have tried slowing down the turbo by venting and even with gentle slowing was also horrified and worried for the pump. I will never attempt it again. At 75 years of age I figure I have the time to be off doing something else useful and constructive as the device slows naturally to a stop. Richard ...

FAQ - About electronic noise in neutron detection
Electronic based neutron detection can be done using many available detectors. The fusor can be an electronically powerful and noisy RFI and EMI device. Almost all neutron detectors are secondary or "stepped" detection devices that produce very weak signals. Likewise, many are subject to detection o...

Re: Neutron Club / Recycled Fusor
This good info and ought to be in the detection forum. I will post my thoughts now there. I have created a FAQ on nosie in neutron detection at https://fusor.net/board/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13961&p=91005#p91005 No! a neutron generator tube doesn't cut it for the neutron club. Here, we are about the j...

Re: Neutron Club / Recycled Fusor
I was stunned that "Joe" won it. I had visions of our Joe Gayo driving to Miami from CA picking the system up and driving back! The codicil related to must "pick up, will not ship, will not break up system" put a real strain on anyone who might be beyond a very long one day round trip. But one never...

Re: Long Lasting Bubble Detector
Thanks for the update on CA education direction. I know a teacher in our local school system. The kids are back in class and being taught now, finally, but it is exactly as you say. No hands on and the death of any cursive writing, no history in many cases, STEM stuff is dumbed down and I was stunne...

Re: The calibration of Baratrons
I'm not so adventurous as to mess with the baratron electrons. Tylan got it good enough for my purposes. The orientation issue and recal issue was important when I moved the orientation on fusor V. I went overboard and let the thing warm in its new position for 3 hours before zeroing. With the Turbo...

Re: Long Lasting Bubble Detector
You are correct of course, however the killer is the equal cost of their outrageous shipping and minimum order quantity. As you note they are a Godsend to the "in it to win it" crowd to whom electronic detection is a bridge too far and activation is out of the question as they will never get the fus...

Re: Bell and whistles diffusion pump based vacuum system.
This is, indeed and wonderful system. Unfortunately many folks can't afford all the valves. Back in 2004 I bought 4 Varian fully rebuilt 2.75 conflat bellows valves from Duniway for $1000. While expensive, they have worked and still work well in my system. Money well spent. Good multiple valving all...
