Re: HF switcher supply construction and voltage multiplication

Hello Pierre: I built a high voltage switching power supply with a beefy AC to DC supply, ZVS driver, large flyback-style transformer, and a voltage tripler. Since I used a cheap ZVS driver off eBay, I didn't have to bother with any driver circuitry. You can see pictures of my supply and a circuit d...

Re: Comet NEOWISE

Here is a photo I took in Hutchinson, Kansas the evening of July 17th. A few second exposure at 70mm focal length on a Nikon Z6. It's noisier than I'd like after resetting the black point due to some light pollution and the setting sun. Hopefully I can get out again in the coming days to get multipl...

Re: HEAS 2020 the 31st year ????

I'd really like to attend an HEAS event. It would be fantastic to meet some fusor folks in real life. However, I'm unsure if I'd be able to this year since October is right when college will be getting hectic with exams...

Re: Research facility construction

Dennis: I look forward to seeing your progress with this new lab build. I can't wait for the day when I can afford a place of my own with a dedicated lab space, but that will be a number of years down the road. Your thesis work sounds quite interesting. It definitely piques the curiosity of my chemi...

Re: Nathan Marshall - Fusor Progress

Cai: It sure is a small world on this fusor forum! I was just talking to Mark Rowley about how his cathode ray tube videos from 10 years ago were what inspired me to build mine. Yes, my channel was previously named Gooferking Science... a silly name that I came up with back when I was a kid first ma...

Re: Nathan Marshall - Fusor Progress

Cai: I just measured the input frequency from the ZVS Driver and it was about 50 kHz. See the attached oscilloscope shot of the input waveform: IMG_5797.jpg The flyback transformer that I am using is an old Thordarson FLY337 that I bought on eBay. It is a large open frame AC flyback. It is far large...

Re: Coronavirus pandemic

I just watched that "Planet of The Humans" documentary. What a fantastic video highlighting the fact that our ingenuity cannot save us from ourselves. Only our willingness to turn back to more sustainable populations and lifestyles can do that. The exponential growth of both population and technolog...

Neutron Club Application - Nathan Marshall

Achieving nuclear fusion became a dream of mine back in 2013 when I was 13 years old. The idea of being able to fuse atoms, the fundamental building blocks of all that we can see, tantalized me. I began experimenting with high voltage and vacuum with the goal in mind of building a fusor. I had a lot...

Re: Nathan Marshall - Fusor Progress

I generated some hydrogen, stored it in a 60mL syringe, and fed it into the fusor. The fusor was sucking in gas at quite a high rate, so after throttling off the diffusion pump a bit I was able to taper off the gas consumption. Even after these adjustments it was still quite a bit higher than 1mL/mi...
