Re: Making a SHV connector

The "official" standard describing the Safe High Voltage connector is IEC 60498 : High-Voltage Coaxial Connectors Used in Nuclear Instrumentation. But this is one of those annoying things where the standards-making agencies want $$$$. And just to make things more confusing - when we say SHV connecto...

Starting fusor build

This chamber is a standard CF 2.75" 4-way cross with a viewport on one side ("left") and the HV feedthrough on the other ("top") Although not strictly necessary at this level of vacuum, standard copper CF gaskets are used on the chamber flanges because that's what I had. Maybe if I need to buy some ...

Re: SNM-11/СНМ-11 Tube - Again ...

"I've been frustrated by the signal to noise ratio of the SNM-11 tube at the recommended bias voltage of 1600V. The bias resistor is 50Meg and the signal is ac coupled and terminated as shown in the data sheet and here. The amplifier is a simple common source JFET amplifier using the MMBF4416A." Oka...

Neutron detector build

This is a neutron detector experiment, a build using a USSR-made SNM-11 boron-10 corona tube. Here the tube is slid into the moderator and the PCB sits just outside. The tube can easily be slid off for the all-important "moderator on vs. moderator off" test. D2AbCWkUYAALKkN.jpg Here is the exposed a...
