Re: Vaccum Leak Testing / Technique and Power Supply Question

UPDATE:
We procured another pump (short on time) and pulled a solid vacuum of around 10-15 mTorr w/ pump on on our whole system.
Pump off, valve closed, slow leak up to about 200 mTorr, but at least now we have vacuum.

Re: Fusors and Maxwell's Equations

Both very interesting accounts, Samuel and Richard. It's very unfortunate. I think if our's ever really gets off the ground we'll be very careful... hence why when I wrote our funding proposal it was listed as a demo fusor - no neutrons allowed. I am still optimistically naive to see if we can get s...

Re: HV feedthrough & chamber insulation

It looks like we are switching our HV feedthrough. The one we currently have is an older style. Looks similar to this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/AbsAAOSweW5U5A01/s-l500.jpg The two ceramic-isolated terminals are on the vacuum side. The one we plan on buying now, Lesker EFT0513253 has a much mor...

Re: Thermal imaging of fusor grid / plasma

That gives me some direction (and makes me grateful for Ebay once again). With the ZnSe glass on the viewport, if I attach the thermal camera on the outside, I should be able to see the inner grid? I'm curious how the idea to use ZnSe glass came about. Is it reducing the luminosity of the light, or ...

Re: Thermal imaging of fusor grid / plasma

A 1 inch (25.4 mm) Zinc Selenide window costs ~$300 USD, and the thermal camera comes up around $500. Is there a way to do thermal imaging of the fusor grid (to determine plasma/grid temperatures) for under $300 - $400? Or maybe someone can point me in a different direction. We are aiming to vary th...

Re: In-Vacuum Electrical Connectors

I am interested if anyone has gone the route of the Banana connectors if they would be willing to share their expertise. Otherwise, we'll have to go the route Dan suggests with a 1/8" O.D. steel tube. Our fusor will have a 2.75" CF HV feedthrough flange. There are two connections for two input wires...

Re: Abstracts posted for 20th US-Japan IECF Workshop

Dan, thanks for posting that link.

I am trying to study abroad / intern / research in Japan in Summer 2019 and this thread has me very curious.
Perhaps I will try to reach out to these groups.
