Re: Bell and whistles diffusion pump based vacuum system.

Good you change the oil. While the vacuum gauge might be off under very low pressure, a good diffusion pump and clean system can bottom-out 10-6 torr.

Re: Custom Fusor Power Supply

A really impressive feat on the PS. Good pics. Also, could you supply a schematic of your power supply?

A pic of the fusor and overall system would be nice, too.

Do not like stepping on a thread but ssamsamm please read the rules for posting - first you should do a intro; also, use your proper name for this part of the post (not ssamsamm) and for future reference, please don't block quote another person's post just add your comment. This is just so everyone ...

New Physics?

Well, the data is in on the G-2 experiment (Muon dipole rotation in a mag field) and the data differs from prediction (older prediction based on experimental data) by 4.2 sigma - nearly the gold standard. See: https://www.livescience.com/muon-wobble-could-break-physics.html AS for the group that rec...

Re: Pro's of new Molten Salt reactor being constructed - discussed by one of Richard's favorite You tuber

Faccinating disscusion by you on the local Richmond geology relative to thorium minerals and radon issues. I remember reading that a very economical uranium desposit exists in central Virginia, too (maybe related to that vein?) I understand that the State refuses any company from mining it. The inte...

Pro's of new Molten Salt reactor being constructed - discussed by one of Richard's favorite You tuber

Here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6BGLgJY0Wg Interesting that this is being built apparently in the US to burn nuclear waste. Here is an interview with the creator of this 'reactor' design: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZn4rGF9B-Y And more detail with this youtube vid via the compa...

Re: Fusor Build - Colin Heath

Well, then you have a clear path - neutron detection. Such a goal is, without a dought, the best objective to obtain relative to plasma research/experiment; neutrons are elusive and very difficult to detect particles - further, thermo-nuclear fusion is one of the very few ways* for any amature to ge...

Re: The planet of the humans equivalent. A no fusion future

Agreed; her overall talk is outstanding and summorizes the main issues with ITER and to a lesser extent, fusion in general (via magnetic fusion.) While the stellarator approch cannot suffer from containment failure I still agree it too would be far too expensive to succeed as a power plant. Further,...

Re: New Method of Magnetic Confinement that has Received Some Interest from DARPA

If you can get basic funding to work on some of the ideas then you have certainly crossed a milestone that really few outside major labs can say. AS for ideas that might work, again, as you also pointed out the stellarator is certainly in that class and the Germans have made amazing progress (on pla...
