The Final Report of the Committee on a Strategic Plan For U.S. Burning Plasma Research (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine) has been released.
It can be accessed via a link from the “FIRE” web site: firefusionpower.org. A pdf copy is also presumably available for free downlod at the National Academy Press site, but I was not able to make that link work.
They are recommending: 1. The U.S. continue to participate in ITER. 2. The U.S. initiate a program to build a superconductor magnet compact fusion reactor.
I would argue that 2. Would be a better use of $5 billion. If we don’t solve the energy problem, nothing else will matter in the end.
Announcements and items of immediate importance.
