Neon sign transformer, AC to DC

Post by Jake_BGoodfellow » Thu Nov 01, 2018 6:24 pm

Hello,

I am having some confusion with these transformers. I only want to build a demo plasma reactor at this stage, using (relatively) low voltages.

However, I believe between the transformer and the fusor chamber I would need something to convert AC to DC? is this correct or have I somewhat mistaken something?

I fully agree, that is boring for the Pros to answer old already solved questions again and again.

However, for newbies to the forum it is a little bit harsh to request them "to work through 150 FAQ-threads first". Although the FAQ has high quality, it could be much more ordered and more to the point. Let's say like a wikipedia for instance, so that people would look the wiki first, before they ask question. (However that would reduce the posting frequency in the forum, but that is what you want, right?)

For the moment I am busy, but in few month or so, I could transform some of the FAQ threads into wiki-articles, if you wanted to. I need to learn some of the stuff anyway. Interested?

Thats a good idea Harald, converting the FAQs into wiki-articles.
There are so many wise words in the FAQs and they would make an excellent introductory book.

If you had the time, would it be possible to also convert them into a PDF booklet that we could download and print?

I find a paper printout much easier to read, and the articles are already in chapter form with headings.
They would only need to be justified and tidied up a little to fit better on the page.

I'm not sure if there would be copyright issues if they were converted without permission from each author first.

To keep this straight, my offer would for 2 or 3 wiki-articles I am interested in (maybe 1 or 2 more on a nice to have basis).

Anyway, the author of the FAQs has give his copyright-OK to do so and the site-admin would have to set up a wiki, first.

I second having a Wiki and wouldn't mind spending some time helping assemble info into it. There is an awful lot of great info here but beyond the FAQs it is now distributed across a large number of threads.

The FAQs try to be complete within themselves. This includes pitfalls, safety precautions and much more than a quick rinse in the subjects related to fusor construction and all the minutia needed to be safe, sane and the many limiting factors known only to those who have trod the path.

Does that mean you are not interested in a wiki at all or does that mean you are not interested in a wiki that contains articles, that would compress the topic too much (e.g. leaving out safety precations) , Richard ?

I mean I do not think I would like to sanction anything outside of these forms not written by a person who has not done fusion and has a grasp of all that is involved. wikis tend to be quick rinse, washed over versions of some very complex material. they are not meant to be detailed or instructional to the degree we strive for in these forums.
